Have you heard of Impostor Syndrome? Have you ever suffered from it? The primary symptom of Impostor Syndrome is feeling like a fraud, even though you are perfectly competent and successful at what you do. Does that sound familiar?
Unfortunately, a lot of admins suffer from this psychological condition. We work incredibly hard, but feel like it’s not enough. Sometimes, we let someone else’s behavior or perceptions of us cloud our thinking. Self-doubt can spin out of control quickly if we don’t stay alert to our surroundings and the way they impact how we think about ourselves.
When I was writing my first book, The Innovative Admin™, I experienced Impostor Syndrome many times. One of the biggest factors that helped me recover and continue moving forward was the support system of mentors, advisors, and colleagues that I surrounded myself with.
Throughout my career, when I’ve encountered times of doubt, the first thing I typically do is tap into my network to do a gut check. Then I educate myself on the topic or skill set that has me doubting myself to make sure I am on the right track. This practice has helped me change my mindset and successfully navigate many doubt-crippling moments.
Throughout this month, we’re going to explore the various types of Impostor Syndrome, and help you overcome them with the tips, training, and resources we share on our Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn pages.
This week’s feature article includes my top 10 resources that offer admins consistently solid and valuable career advice and support – whether you’ve been in the field for one year or 30. We would also love to hear your recommendations on where to look for career advice and support. Please share them with us at AdminSuccess@AllThingsAdmin.com, or on our social media pages.
