Personal Note from Julie: Preparing for your annual review

Dec 4, 2015 | Career Development

delegatinwomen275We’re nearing the end of another year, which for a lot of assistants means it’s performance review time!

As things are winding down for the year, and you’re catching your breath and getting organized, this is the perfect time to look back at what you’ve accomplished in the past 12 months. Go back through your calendar and files to capture highlights from the projects you’ve contributed to and the skills you’ve honed. Use this list to update your professional portfolio, resume and other career toolkit items.

Then prepare for your review by submitting your list of accomplishments and your professional portfolio of work samples to your manager or executive in advance of your review. This gives him or her a chance to look it over before you meet. It gives your executive concrete details to include on your review documentation. When you take this proactive approach, it’s almost like writing your own review!

And even if it’s not review season at your office, you can get ahead by working on these things now. Be sure to check out this week’s feature article and the links on our Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn pages for advice and tips on how to get a jump start on making this year’s annual review your best one yet!
