I had the pleasure of traveling to Portland, Oregon this week to share two presentations with a group of enthusiastic assistants. We discussed career planning and developing an indispensable personal brand as admins. The event was held at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry — an absolutely wonderful venue. As you can see from the picture, it felt more like a fireside chat with friends.
One of the recurring conversations I find myself having with assistants is the vital importance of understanding the ins and outs your own personality type and strengths as you plan your career and do your job each day. This helps you set more achievable goals for yourself. It helps you become a better support person. It gives you insight into why some activities frustrate you and others provide fulfillment and satisfaction.
The same is true with your executive. A deep understanding of personality type — ours and theirs — is how we educate them on how to better utilize our strengths, skills, and unique abilities for the benefit of everyone. Learning about your executive’s personality type and strengths helps you communicate and work with them at a very high level. This is at the heart of building a strong partnership with your executive. It’s crucial to anticipating responses and needs in various situations that come up. And it’s how you become an effective advocate and liaison for your executive. I’ll share more about this during the AdminPro Training Series webinar on February 24.
This week’s feature article touches on some additional benefits of understanding personality type in the workplace. We’re sharing tips and resources on our Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn pages, too. Gaining an understanding and appreciation for all personality types is one of the best time investments you can make in your career development. Be sure to check them out.
Supporting your administrative success,
Julie
