I recently participated in a panel discussion on managing up at the Admin Pro Forum, and it was fascinating to hear the different responses from the panelists. Yet there was a common thread throughout our varied responses that boiled down to this: When you support a high-level executive, you need to be proactive and learn how manage your him or her – instead of the other way around. In other words, you need to manage up.
Throughout my career, I’ve found that the better I know myself, and how to articulate my communication and work styles to those I support, the more I’m able to observe and learn about those styles in the people I work with. That’s why I’m such a huge proponent of using personality and strengths assessments to facilitate better working relationships.
This week, we’re explaining more about how to be proactive and provide top-level support to your executive. And our Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn pages are full of additional resources to help you learn how to manage up, and become the administrative assistant your executive won’t want to be without!
Supporting your administrative success,
