As admins, it’s easy for us to get stuck in a career rut. Oftentimes, we do the same things and work with the same people, day in and day out. So it’s common to get lulled into a false sense of security or become complacent in our profession.
But this doesn’t have to be the case…if you know how to combat professional boredom.
As I prepare for our move to Indianapolis, I’ve noticed that it’s really easy to just let things coast because they’re working. But this can be a very dangerous and slippery slope – one that can lead to things being overlooked or neglected. So instead of letting things go, I’m using this move to identify areas where I can do better – whether it’s organizing my new home office, better management of my schedule, or an entirely new approach to getting work done.
And I encourage you to do the same in your admin career.
When you get a job or an executive you really like, it’s easy to settle into a “good enough” mentality. If you find yourself in this place, be ready to get punched in the gut. Admins need to be ready to maneuver through whatever comes their way and to do this successfully, you cannot rest on your laurels! You need to be proactive about expanding your skills, growing your role in your company, and leveraging both to advance your career. You don’t have to make any major changes to your career, but you need to be willing to switch gears to re-engage and reorient yourself into a better place moving forward.
Our feature article this week explains how you can avoid complacency in your admin career. We’re also sharing a lot of valuable advice on how to stay energized, engaged, and innovative in your admin career on our Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn pages.
Don’t be content with a “good enough” admin career. Shake things up and aim to have an amazing one. It’s what Innovative Admins do!
Supporting your administrative success,
