Here we are staring down the final hours of 2011. It’s been a remarkable year in my personal and professional life. I’ve been through some life altering experiences dealing with some personal health issues that surfaced, resetting habits, adjusting mindsets, stretching myself further than I thought I could, and learning more about myself throughout the journey than I ever imagined. Not every moment of it was enjoyable, but it was a phenomenal year. As I look back on it now with some perspective, I am thankful for each and every opportunity that came my way to stretch and strengthen me. I positively cannot wait to see what the new year will bring!
If you haven’t taken time yet to reflect on your own personal journey over the past 12 months, now is the perfect time to do so. My feature article this week focuses on this from a career planning and goal setting perspective professionally, but it’s important to do this for yourself personally also. The personal and professional are both important. Both impact the other. And seeing progress and growth in your personal life is something you should track and celebrate with as much enthusiasm as you do in your professional life. So take some time over the next few days and capture some thoughts on paper about what you learned this past year, how you were stretched, and how the experiences you faced made you stronger and wiser as a result. It’s a great way to end one year and begin another year filled with gratitude and appreciation for life.
