It’s been just under three months since I released my first book – The Innovative Admin – and the positive feedback I received at the IAAP convention a few weeks ago and through emails and phone calls keeps rolling in. (Thanks to Susan Goeltzenleuchter for sharing this picture of us together at the IAAP Office Expo.)
As I wrote the book, I knew it had a lot of potential to help you become a more innovative administrative professional because of my own experiences and those of colleagues and clients I’ve observed closely and personally worked with. I told my husband one day that writing my book would be worth it if only ONE single person benefitted from it. I was pretty sure more than one person would, but I simply wanted to help you – that one individual admin – in your individual career journey. But in actuality, I’ve already helped hundreds of admins shift their mindset and shift their careers, and I’m both humbled and inspired by the transformations that are occurring because of my book.
One of the inspiring parts of this for me is hearing how these admins are now implementing what they’ve read and the complete change of focus it has created for them. Just as one tiny pebble tossed into the water creates ripples across the water that go on and on…these admins are courageously stepping out and implementing new ideas one by one and creating ripples of their own. The impact each of us has the ability to make on just one single person is huge. But the extended impact our reach has on others far beyond ourselves – which we sometimes never have visibility into – is far greater.
The process of writing my first book was NOT an easy process or a smooth journey by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, portions of it were just plain ugly and painful. But if I had not stepped completely outside of my comfort zone, stretched myself well beyond what I was familiar with and confident in, and surrounded myself with the right support team, then I would not have had this opportunity to positively impact so many admins’ careers with ONE single book.
You have that same capacity and ability to positively change and impact the lives of those you work and live with on a regular basis, too. I’d like to challenge you to create a ripple effect of your own. Is there something you’ve been hesitating about taking action on in your own career? Are you allowing fear, doubt, or worry to derail you? It’s time to push forward. The path won’t be straight. The journey probably won’t be easy. You’re going to hit roadblocks and fail along the way. But what you learn about yourself and pushing past your fears, the confidence you will develop by overcoming roadblocks, the momentum that builds in your life, and the realization of a goal or dream you chose to actively pursue makes it one of the truly rewarding and fulfilling experiences life has to offer. Are you ready to take action?
Supporting your administrative success,
Julie Perrine
